Black to the Future
Afrofuturism emerged in the 1990s to highlight sci-fi that was centered on the African-American experience and hopes for the future. Initially focusing on the 20th century, it later expanded to include various artistic mediums. It challenges whitewashed future visions and Eurocentric interpretations of Black history, enabling individuals to celebrate and cultivate a culture free from racial constraints.
In a time marked by the banning of critical race theory, escalating police brutality against Black individuals, and the Supreme Court's revocation of affirmative action, opportunities for Black youth to feel hopeful are scarce.
